COMPOSITE LAMINATE VENEERS (BONDING)

A direct composite veneer is a minimally invasive chair-side procedure which is completed in a single appointment. They are prepared by a dentist who applies multiple layers of composite fillings to the front surface of the tooth. In most of the cases, dentists do not need to perform any tooth preparation, except applying an acid etch for 20 seconds. There is no dental laboratory involved in direct composite veneers procedure. Composite veneers are suitable for front teeth and should not be used in high load bearing areas.

OVERVIEW AND FAQ’S

ABOUT DENTAL VENEERS IN TURKEY

dental veneer is an aesthetic dental restoration type which is made of a thin layer of glass ceramic that covers only the visible surfaces of the tooth. They are indirect restorations which are prepared in an internal or external dental laboratory and used for aesthetic purposes. Laminate veneers are not suitable for high load bearing areas such as molar teeth.

Laminate Veneers can be used to restore/improve aesthetics of;

  • Discoloured & Stained Teeth

  • Teeth with gaps (diastema)

In Estetik İncim Dental Centre Turkey, Laminate veneers are prepared within 48 hours with 3D Design and milling devices. We ask our patients to stay for an extra day for control appointment before travelling back to their country. Therefore, 3 days in total are required for dental laminate veneers in our clinic.

  • Highly aesthetic results.
  • Requires minimal or no tooth preparation.
  • Lab-work requires less time than dental crowns.
  • Can be completed in a single appointment.
  • Highly durable.
  • Prepless veneers are reversible procedures.

A dental porcelain veneer is an artificial tooth that covers the front surface of a tooth like a mask. For those who are wondering what they are made of, the main material is the glass particles mixed with various substances such as lithium disilicate. In contrast to dental crowns, porcelain laminate veneers require very little amount of tooth surface reduction. Therefore, dentists consider porcelain veneers as one of the least invasive aesthetic dental procedures. Moreover, unlike the traditional porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crowns, porcelain veneers do not have a black metal base. This makes them look much more natural and aesthetic.

We produce porcelain veneers in both digital (Cad Cam method) and non-digital (Press method) environment. Whatever method we use to prepare your porcelain veneers, we will perform a minimal invasive tooth preparation prior to the lab work.

DENTAL VENEERS APPOINTMENT SEQUENCE
In Estetik İncim Dental Centre Turkey, we complete dental veneers in 3 appointments within 48 hours.
1- Tooth Preparation Stage: Our dentists perform a minimal tooth preparation on the tooth surface for porcelain veneers under local anaesthetic. Once tooth preparation is over, we take and transfer the impression to our in-house dental laboratory. Here, our technicians prepare the prototype of your new teeth.
2- Mock-Up Stage: We will temporarily cement the plastic prototypes of your permanent veneers to your teeth and evaluate their look with you. We will make the adjustments at this stage as you desire.
3- Permanent Cementation Stage: After the mock-up stage, our lab will prepare the actual veneers. Once they are ready, our dentists will cement them to the front surface of your teeth permanently.

TOOTH PREPARATION FOR DENTAL VENEERS
In this Stage, your dentists will prepare your tooth surface for the veneers. A crown of tooth has three parts; enamel, dentin and pulp. Enamel is the outmost layer of a tooth crown. For all-ceramic veneers, it is essential to keep the preparation within the borders of enamel.

Once we are ready to begin the procedure, our dentists start with opening two 0.5mm depth guide grooves on your teeth followed by marking these grooves with a lead pencil to prevent over reduction on tooth surface. And then the main tooth reduction stage starts. In this stage, our dentists will reduce the font surface of your teeth until these two guide grooves merge smoothly. This method allows us to keep the porcelain veneer preparation borders within the enamel layer. After that, we perform a smooth reduction of the other front surfaces of your teeth. A single porcelain veneer preparation takes approximately 10 minutes.

A dental veneer preparation for 6 of your front teeth takes approximately 90 minutes including the dental impression.

Veneer preparations that extend to dentin layer of the tooth are more prone to de-bonding and fractures. Moreover, too thick or too thin veneers have a higher risk of fracture. Therefore, dental veneers should be prepared by expert dentists and technicians with the appropriate methods. This is especially important for patients who are travelling to Turkey from other countries for dental veneers.

DENTAL VENEER PREPARATION TECHNIQUES IN ESTETİK İNCİM DENTAL CENTRE TURKEY
DENTAL VENEERS PREPARATION – CAD CAM TECHNIQUE
Once our dentists prepare your tooth surface for dental veneers, we transfer your dental impression to our in-house dental laboratory. Then, our expert dental technicians will start designing your new teeth on digital environment. You are more than welcome to give your opinions about the real-time design of your new teeth on the screen.

Once the procedure is complete, we will produce a prototype of the end product from a plastic block (PMMA Blocks) in order to demonstrate how the end product dental veneers will look. At this stage, we will cement your veneer prototypes with a temporary material and leave you alone with your reflection on a mirror for a while. We can perform any adjustments on this plastic prototype to achieve the perfect look of your dental veneers. After that, we transfer the adjustments on your digital design on our 3D software and produce the real porcelain veneers from E.max blocks, followed by permanent cementation to your teeth.

DENTAL VENEERS PREPARATION – PRESS TECHNIQUE
It is quite similar process with the Cad Cam technique except that the actual veneer will be prepared with a press machine. Once our dentists complete your tooth preparation, your impressions will be transferred to our in-house dental laboratory. Our technicians prepare a wax-up of your teeth on our in-house Cad/Cam devices for mock-up stage. Once your wax-up is ready, we transfer it to your mouth with temporary restoration materials to evaluate the design. This Mock-up stage is followed by the production of the actual dental veneers in a press furnace.

TYPES OF DENTAL VENEERS
There are three types of Laminate Veneers; Porcelain, Direct Composite and Indirect Composite.

PORCELAIN DENTAL LAMINATE VENEERS
Following the tooth preparation and impression in the first appointment, the porcelain veneer can be completed within 24 hours. E-max veneers are the most reputable dental veneer materials that are prepared on CAD/CAM devices within hours.

DIRECT COMPOSITE VENEERS (COMPOSITE BONDING)
Dentists can complete Direct Composite Veneers in a single appointment within 2 hours. For composite veneers, dentists apply multiple layers and colours of dental composite to the tooth surface and cure it with a light. Therefore, the result is very quick compared to other dental veneer options.

INDIRECT COMPOSITE VENEERS
In this method, dentist takes impression of the teeth after minimal preparation and then completes the restoration on a model which is a copy of the patient’s teeth. Once the restoration on the model is ready, dentists transfer it to patients mouth with bonding adhesives.

Dentists use dental veneers to cover tooth discolourations, tooth shape anomalies, closing the gaps, straightening teeth and whitening. They require minimal tooth preparation on the tooth surface and also provide excellent aesthetic results. The treatment usually takes only a single day with the use of latest technology CAD/CAM devices.

Despite the aforementioned advantages, dental veneers are less durable than Porcelain Fused to Zirconia (PFZ) or Porcelain Fused to Metal (PFM) crowns. Moreover, because of the minimal preparation and the thin form, their bonding force is not as strong as dental crowns. Therefore, veneers are more likely to de-bond after using them for a while.

ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES OF VENEERS
Laminate veneers are one of the most contemporary and conservative dental treatment approach for those who are concerned about the appearance of their teeth. They provide excellent aesthetics with the least amount of tooth removal. Moreover they are highly bio-compatible which means they don’t irritate gums as much as other dental prosthetics materials such as PFM Crowns or Acrylic Dentures. However, they have some disadvantages too. Now, lets go through the advantages and disadvantages of Laminate Veneers:

ADVANTAGES OF LAMINATE VENEERS

  • Excellent aesthetic results.
  • Conservative approach; requires minimal tooth preparation.
  • Short treatment duration. E-max or composite veneers can be completed in 2 days.
  • Non-allergic.
  • Can be done without tooth tissue removal which makes it a reversible procedure.

DISADVANTAGES OF DENTAL VENEERS

  • De-bonds (comes off) easier than crowns.
  • Low durability. Veneers can fracture easily if used on high load bearing areas such as molars.
  • They are more expensive than other dental restorations.
  • Not suitable for high load bearing ares.

DENTAL VENEER COSTS COMPARISON BETWEEN TURKEY AND THE UK
According to the NHS, dental veneers are cosmetic procedures. Patients can get veneers by NHS only when it is found clinically necessary. Therefore, it is very rare to get veneers by NHS. They are in Band 3 treatment category, which costs £282.80 in 2021. Even if you are already receiving treatment under NHS scheme, you can not get veneers for cosmetic reasons.

When it comes to the private clinics in the UK, veneers can get a bit expensive to afford. Price of a single porcelain veneer starts from £500 and may go up to £1000 or more. Contrarily, dental laminate veneers in Turkey cost between £225 and £300 per veneer.

Let’s assume that you are having 8 veneers to your top jaw to achieve a better smile. This procedure could cost approximately £5500 in the UK, which is a bit expensive for most of the patients. In the meanwhile, the same treatment of 8 veneers could cost approximately £2000 in Turkey.
