OVERVIEW AND FAQ’S

DENTAL CROWNS IN TURKEY

A dental crown is a type of artificial tooth which completely surrounds a tooth or a dental implant. Whether your teeth are widely decayed, gappy, discoloured, crooked or have had large restorations previously, dental crowns are the choice of the treatment. They are used to improve both aesthetics and functions of the teeth. Since they completely surround a tooth, unlike laminate veneers, dental crowns let us perform more effective adjustments on your tooth positions. Crowns are more durable than other restoration types such as laminate veneers or composite restorations. We have our patients who are still using their dental crowns after more than 15 years.

In Estetik İncim Dental Centre Turkey, we complete the dental crowns within 1 to 4 days in our in-house dental lab which is fully equipped with latest technology 3D Designing and Milling devices. All-ceramic crowns are entirely made of engineered glass particles. The light diffusion through porcelain crowns are close to a natural tooth. Therefore, they have an unmatched natural and aesthetic look. There are various full porcelain crown brands in the dentistry market; E.max, Vivaneer, Lava, Oprec, Vitablock, Empress, Cerec and more. E.max Crowns is one of the most reputable porcelain crown brands in the market. In Esdent Dental Centre Turkey, we regularly use E.max crowns because of their immaculate aesthetic results.

PORCELAIN - ZIRCONIA CROWN

Porcelain Fused to Zirconia Crown is one of the most popular type of aesthetic dental crown which consists of porcelain layers applied over a zirconia base. Even though zirconia is a strong white metal and can be used solely without any additional porcelain, it may not provide the excellent aesthetics as porcelains do. Therefore, the combination of porcelain and zirconia used more commonly in aesthetic cases. In this combination, zirconia base provides the durability and porcelain layers provide the great aesthetics.

In full mouth Zirconia Crown cases, aesthetically important front teeth should be done with Porcelain Fused to Zirconia Crowns. Solid zirconia crowns (without porcelain) can be used in molar teeth.

FULL CONTOUR ZIRCONIA CROWNS

Even though many sources consider Zirconia crowns as a part of all-ceramic crowns, we find it more appropriate to count them as a separate crown material category as zirconium dioxide is their main ingredient, which is stabilised with the addition of yttrium oxide. Zirconia is a white metal which is mined in different parts of the world. Their durability against high chewing forces makes it possible to use them in dentistry, even on molar teeth.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LAMINATE VENEERS AND DENTAL CROWNS?
It can be easy to confuse dental crowns and laminate veneers for the general public. However, there are quite big differences between the two options:

Dental crowns cover all around the tooth, both front and back surfaces whereas dental laminate veneers cover only the front (visible) surfaces of a tooth.
Dental crowns are thicker than laminate veneers. Therefore, they require more tooth tissue removal.
Unlike laminate veneers, it is possible to fix the crowding with dental crowns.
Dental crowns can be used to restore both function and aesthetics whereas laminate veneers are mostly used for aesthetic purposes.
Unlike laminate veneers, dental crowns can be used in high load bearing parts of the mouth such as molar teeth.

WHICH DENTAL CROWN MATERIAL IS BETTER?
If we were to compare the aesthetic qualities of the contemporary dental crowns, all-ceramic crowns would be the winner. Zirconia Crowns and PFM crowns follows all-ceramics respectively. Even though all-ceramic crowns takes the first place, there are highly aesthetic zirconia crowns that can compete with them. Full-contour multi-layered zirconia crowns provides highly aesthetic and natural results. Moreover, zirconia (White Metal) is much more durable than all-ceramic materials. PFM crowns are the least aesthetic option amongst these three types of crowns. However, they are the most durable ones. Especially for implant restorations, PFM crowns fit really good.
